Gujarat: A Health worker was arrested on May 1 from the Kachchh district of Gujarat for allegedly leaking classified information regarding the BSF and the IAF to a Pakistani agent, following a preliminary inquiry by the ATS.
The accused was alleged to be gathering sensitive information through his deployment as a health worker. According to K Siddharth, Superintendent of Police of the Gujarat ATS, the suspect Gohil was under surveillance based on inputs regarding his communication with a foreign intelligence operative.
The ATS called Gohil in for questioning, during which some evidence appeared to suggest his involvement in espionage activities. Further inquiries also revealed that he had been sharing classified military details with a contact across the border. The exact nature of the information shared, including its relevance to national security, remain under investigation.
The Gujarat ATS is in touch with intelligence agencies at the center to understand the full scope of the breach and whether other links can be found. Gohil is likely to be prosecuted under the Official Secrets Act and other related laws.
The authorities underscore the gravity of such internal threats and the ever-constant need to stay vigilant. The case serves to illustrate how foreign agencies may try to recruit even non-military persons as part of their espionage networks, thereby deepening concerns about insider threats and the need for stronger internal security arrangements.
